Nicosie, derniere capitale divisee au monde, printemps 2003. Apres les demonstrations chypriotes-turques qui ont precede et suivi la signature d'accession a l'U.E de la Republique de Chypre, Ankara a ete contrainte de laisser des points de passages sur la Ligne Verte qui divise l'ile depuis le coup d'etat grec et l'invasion turque de juillet 1974.Certains chypriotes turcs et grecs se retrouvent des deux cotes et manifestent leur desir de revivre ensemble 'Mazi' en ce 1er mai 2003. A l'aeroport de Nicosie sous controle de l'O.N.U, rien n'a bouge depuis 1974, le monastere de l'Apotre Andre redevient pour les grecs-chypriotes synonyme de retour 'l'Epistrofi', et l'abbaye du Bellapais est toujours aussi belle.
Plus que jamais, Famagouste ou 'Varossi', ville fantome depuis l'invasion, est le symbole de cette issue sans fin, de cette division qui dure depuis 30 ans.Morphou avec son eglise profanee temoigne de la division, Kerynia la belle est n'a pas changee et Saint Hilarion, le chateau fort et heritage des Lusignans trone toujours sur l'ensemble de l'ile. 
Le 24 avril 2004, le referendum sur la reunification de l'ile sous l'egide de l'O.N.U a ete accepte par les
chypriotes-turcs mais rejete par les chypriotes-grecs parce-qu'il donne des droits d'intervention militaire a la Turquie sur Chypre et aucune garantie vis-a-vis de l'application effective du plan par la Turquie.

Following the Turkish-Cypriot demonstrations before and after the signature for the accession to the E.U by the Republic of Cyprus, Ankara has accepted a few check-points on the Green Line which divides the island since Greek coup d'etat and the Turkish military invasion of july 1974. Some Greek and Turkish Cypriots meet again on both sides of the island and demonstrate their will to live again together 'Mazi' on this 1rst of may 2003.At the Nicosia International Airport still under U.N control, nothing has changed since 1974, the monastery of Apostolos Andreas symbolises once again the return 'Epistrofi' to come for the Greek-Cypriot community, and the Bellapais monastery is still as beautiful.More than ever, Famagousta 'Varossi', phantom city since the invasion, is the reflection of this never ending issue, this division which has been there for 30 years.Morphou with its violated church attests for the permanent division, beautiful Kerynia has not changed and Saint Hilarion,castle and heritage of the Lusignans still stands overlooking the island. 
On april 24rth 2004, the referendum on the reunification of the island under the U.N was accepted by the Turkish-Cypriots but rejected by the Greek Cypriots because it gives military intervention rights to Turkey over Cyprus and no garanties on the effective application of the plan by Turkey.
